Goals: To embed evidence from the text (quotes) gracefully into sentences that explain their significance; to use direct evidence from a text to support an analysis of theme
Opener: Below are two examples from student essays that make insightful points and use effective evidence, but that need some help with grammar and embedding quotes. Copy them out and revise them so that they are grammatically correct and follow the rules for embedding quotes we looked at yesterday.
Handouts in Class: none (see yesterday)
Terms and Vocabulary: to embed, "ICE" [acronym]
Work Assigned and Collected:
1. You started putting together a mini-essay on theme in chapters 7-9 by finding quotes and embedding them using ICE.
