Goals: To use close-reading and syntax to decode difficult language; to analyze how unusual syntax and literary devices create layers of meaning in a text.
Opener: Take out the literary devices list from yesterday. Find an example of one of these devices, and explain what it means. Try to embed your quote with a brief introduction, the quote itself, and an explanation of what it means all in the same sentence like we’ve practiced. When you’re finished . . . do another one! Do as many as you can, to make your opener a short paragraph. Try to find several different kinds of literary devices. Hint: we’ve identified a few in the study guide.
