Goals: To use pre-reading to analyze the rhetorical context of a book and make predictions about it
Opener: Thoroughly examine the covers, first three pages, and last three pages (the actual pages in the book, not just where the story starts. Look at everything. What kind of book do you think it’s going to be? What can you already tell about it? Do you think you’re going to like it? Why or why not? What do you think will be similar about reading this book to other books you’ve read? What do you think will be different? Why will it be similar, and why will it be different?
