Goals: To be able to read an essay critically and identify its thesis and main arguments
Opener: Re-read your descriptive outline, and put a star next to the boxes that you think present the author’s thesis or present his main arguments for that thesis. Do not include paragraphs that merely continue or provide evidence for an argument he’s already made. For your opener, explain what Willingham’s thesis and main arguments are in your own words. Write this in paragraph form, using academic language, grammar, and punctuation.
