Goals: To analyze how the characterization, conflicts, and theme in a novel can work together to create a deeper, symbolic meaning
Opener: Abraham Maslow was a psychologist who, in 1943, first published his idea that we have a hierarchy of needs as humans, and that we cannot meet the needs that are higher in this hierarchy until we have met the needs below them. Look at how he separates the needs, and explain whether or not you agree with them, and why. Give examples to help explain.
