Goals: To use annotation and close reading to help decode and interpret the meaning in a text; to explain how figurative language develops theme and character
Opener: In your opinion, what qualities make someone a good leader for a country the size of the United States? Lichtenstein is a European country with a population of about 40,000 (this is 1/20 the size of San Francisco); do you think a good leader for a country this size would have different qualifications? How and why? What about being a leader during times in history before radio and television (i.e. before easy and fast communication) — what would be different? How would being a “good leader” be different?
