Opener: Read the response above yours on yesterday’s opener (if you were first, read the last one). Respond RESPECTFULLY by explaining two things:
-- First, clearly describe one thing that makes this argument effective. Be detailed and specific. You might talk about the type of evidence s/he uses, or the order in which s/he presents the evidence. Maybe the tone and word choice is particularly striking, or perhaps the way s/he explains the connections between the details is very helpful. Maybe the way the main argument itself is stated is particularly compelling for you. Choose something this writer does well, and explain WHY you think it works.
-- Second, clearly describe one thing this person might change to make the argument even more effective. Again, be detailed and specific, but be sure to respect the other person's point of view. You are not suggesting a change to the argument, merely a change to the strategies this person uses to make the argument.

Work Assigned and Collected:
a. We reviewed sample essays
b. We worked on the essay drafts
1. Aim to have a rough draft of your essay completed by the end of class tomorrow. This rough draft might not contain all your general details, and probably won't have an attention grabber, but it should have your thesis, all your main points, all your evidence, and the explanations for how your evidence connects to your main ideas in the order they will appear in your essay.
2. Please read Chapter 1 of Their Eyes Were Watching God by next WEDNESDAY (date has changed).
