Opener: On p. 29, Janie hesitates to go with Joe Starks “because he did not represent sun-up and pollen and blooming trees, be he spoke for far horizon.” Think about the pear tree, and what was missing for Janie in her marriage to Logan Killicks. You might also consider the first paragraph of the book. What do yout think the “sun-up and pollen and blooming trees” a metaphor for? What is the far horizon a metaphor for?
