Goals: To use annotation and a two-step reading process to find deeper meaning and connections within a text
Opener: Re-read the last paragraph of chapter 13 (on p. 128). Why is Janie’s love “self-crushing”? What is good about this? What is bad about this? What does it mean that her soul “crawled out from its hiding-place”? Why is this happening to her at this specific moment?

Work Assigned and Collected:
a. We read and took first-reading notes on chapter 14.
1. Please read chapter 14 a second time and use your yellow card to annotate it. For each chapter, have at least three annotations of each kind on the card EXCEPT point of view -- for that one you may only have one. Notice that this is a total of 10 annotations, total, each chapter. I will be checking these notes, along with chapters 15-16 (which we will read tomorrow) on Monday.
